Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for the Google PhD Fellowships Program for East Asia, all applicants must meet all of the following criteria:
- Students must maintain full-time enrollment in the PhD program for the duration of the Fellowship or forfeit the award.
- Employees of Google, as well as their spouses, children, and household members, are not eligible.
- Students who have already received a comparable industry award are ineligible. Funding from the government or a non-profit organization is exempt.
- Previous PhD Fellowship awardees from Australia and New Zealand, East Asia, India, and Southeast Asia are ineligible to apply.
Students from Australia and New Zealand, East Asia, Europe, the United States, and Canada were nominated.
Universities should only recommend students who meet the following criteria:
- Early-stage PhD students enrolled in their first or second year in Australia and New Zealand (no requirement for completion of graduate coursework by the academic award year).
- Students from Canada, East Asia, Europe, and the United States who have completed graduate coursework by the academic award year when the Fellowship begins are eligible.
Students from Africa, India, Latin America, and Southeast Asia who applied directly
- Incoming PhD students are eligible to apply, but the Fellowship award is conditional on the awardee enrolling in a full-time PhD program in computer science (or an adjacent field) during the academic award year, or the award will be forfeited.
- Latin America: incoming or early stage-students enrolled in the first or second year of their PhD (no requirement for completion of graduate coursework by the academic award year).
- The Fellowship does not imply acceptance into a PhD program. Separately, the awardee must apply to and be accepted to a PhD program in computer science (or a related field) at an eligible institution.
- The Fellowship will be granted subject to the rules and guidelines of the institution where the awardee registers for the PhD program.
