The Melton Foundation supports and facilitates global citizenship as a means for individuals and organizations to collaborate beyond geography and identity borders to address global concerns.

The Melton Foundation is an international 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in the United States that is a prominent proponent of global citizenship practice across the world. Established over thirty years ago on the belief that cross-border collaboration can develop long-term solutions to the world’s most urgent concerns, we now have six global citizenship centers in Chile, China, Germany, Ghana, India, and the United States of America.

Scholarship Benefit

As a Melton Fellow and participant in Global Citizenship Learning Program, you will:

  • Experience diverse cultures firsthand and how to collaborate beyond geographical and identity divides.

     

  • Increase your understanding of global issues relating to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

     

  • Improve your talents by participating in hands-on courses, training, and mentorship initiatives.

     

  • Co-create and build impact projects in your neighborhood and throughout the world with Fellows and partners to drive change efforts – small and large – for broader effect.
  • Join a network of 500+ Fellows and partner organizations from all industries and locations of the world.

     

  • Join an immersive learning lab that will provide you with the knowledge and confidence to take action on urgent issues in your community.

During the 1.5 years of the Global Citizenship Learning Program, as a new Melton Fellow, you may expect the following:

  • Attend the Melton Foundation’s yearly global events.

     

  • Participate in online learning activities (around 5 hours per month).

     

  • Work in worldwide project teams (depending on the project, an average of 5 hours each month).

     

  • Participate in community initiatives (average estimate: 5 hours/month, depending on your local community participation).

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible, you must be a university student between the ages of 18 and 25 as of the application deadline, and you must plan to live within the city borders of one of our partner universities for the first 1.5 years:

  • Bangalore, India
  • Greater Accra, Ghana
  • New Orleans, United States
  • Jena, Germany
  • Temuco, Chile
  • Hangzhou, China

Other eligibility requirements include:

  • Students must be presently enrolled in a degree-seeking undergraduate or graduate program.

     

  • You must be fluent in English to comprehend and participate in all areas of the curriculum, including complicated debates on human concerns.

     

  • Have a track record of civic involvement in your town.

     

  • Be willing to learn about the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and to adopt Global Citizenship as a way of life.

     

  • If invited to the local assessment center, you must be prepared to offer one letter of recommendation.

How to apply

Application Form

The first and most critical step is to submit a written application by the deadline.

Assessment Center

We will analyze written submissions and invite qualified individuals to participate in an Assessment Center after the above-mentioned deadline(s). Assessment Centers are arranged geographically and take place around 2-4 weeks after the application deadline, either remotely or at a partner university near you.

Dates and other information will be communicated to selected candidates in advance.

Interviews

Following the Assessment Center(s), we will invite the most qualified individuals from each location to participate in a timed video interview, which will be assessed by our Global Selection Team.

If you are invited to a final interview, you must produce at least one letter of recommendation in support of your candidacy. You may get a recommendation letter template here.

Final Decision

Following the Assessment Center, a global selection team will pick the best-suited candidates from around the world to become Melton Fellows in the Global Citizenship Learning Program.
