African Futures Research Leadership Program for African Researchers at Michigan State University 2023

The Alliance for African Partnership (AAP) launched its African Futures Research Leadership Program in the fall of 2019. The competitive visiting scholar program invites early career female researchers from the ten AAP member universities to spend a year at Michigan State University (MSU) being jointly supervised by faculty members from MSU and their home institution in research for impact, writing scholarly and/or policy publications, disseminating research results, and writing grant proposals.

Early career researchers also take part in a planned academic promotion program while creating bridges and long-term ties with MSU and their cohort. They also attend an off-site leadership retreat where they will be trained in thinking leadership, team building, research development, engagement, and cooperation. Furthermore, the scholar’s MSU and home institution mentors will each visit the other’s institution for a week of cooperation sessions in order to form long-term ties.
