According to an agreement for the advancement of science in developing countries between the Alliance of International Science Organizations (ANSO), the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS/UNESCO), up to 40 students/scholars from developing countries will be sponsored to study for doctoral degrees in China for up to four years.
The ANSO Scholarship for Young Talents (hence referred to as the ANSO Scholarship) was officially inaugurated in 2019 with the purpose of teaching and developing young scientists from across the world. Every year, the ANSO Scholarship supports 200 Master’s students and 300 PhD students pursuing postgraduate studies at the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS), or Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) institutes around China. The entire Call for the ANSO Scholarship may be seen here.
This year, the ANSO-CAS-TWAS/UNESCO PhD Scholarship, a sub-category of the ANSO Scholarship, is formally inaugurated. In keeping with TWAS/UNESCO priorities, particular (but not exclusive) consideration will be given to two target groups: Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and women. TWAS/UNESCO will choose up to 40 PhD students from poor countries in the South into this category each year.
The ANSO Scholarship is sponsored in large part by CAS, a founding member of ANSO. TWAS and UNESCO, both founding members of ANSO, contribute to the grantees of the ANSO-CAS-TWAS/UNESCO PhD Scholarship. ANSO invites all members and parties interested in working together to create a more diverse scholarship program.

About The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS)
TWAS was established in 1983 by a prominent group of scientists from the developing world, led by Pakistani physicist and Nobel laureate Abdus Salam. They shared the view that developing countries could solve difficulties such as hunger, sickness, and poverty by strengthening their scientific and engineering capabilities. The Academy received critical early backing from Italian scientists and political leaders.
