Updates from the Meeting held by the SUG and DPO (Abraka Division)

In line with our core duties to represent and be the voice of the students, the President of the Student Union Government, Comrade Ojaide Joshua, and Secretary General, Comrade Justice Ajede, went on an impromptu visit to the office of the DPO of the Nigerian Police, Abraka Division, to see how to end the unwarranted arrest/harassment from the men of the police on our students.

Top of the deliberation was the issue of unlawful arrest and extortion against our students, as well as the issue of taking them to unknown locations.

Admin of Operation was subsequently summoned by the DPO and after what seems to be an intense meeting, the following conclusions were reached;

  • No Policeman or Van should be at the big gate. They should subsequently move to Conoil Petrol Station.
  • No student should be stopped, neither should they have their phones checked by the Police, while going to class or coming from class.
  • If any student is apprehended for unavoidable reasons, the police should not ask the student to follow them to any location for unlawful negotiation. The Police are only allowed to take suspects to the station. This is the number of DPO Hassan, should any police officer do otherwise, 08033822672. Today is coincidentally his birthday.Delsu SUGThe Police will no longer take any innocent student to his or her hostel without the case being filed as a criminal case under the law.

As a note of caution, we will also plead with our students to avoid late night movements with questionable gadgets. Taking of drugs is punishable by law, we beckon on our students to avoid same, neither should they have it in there custody.
