Scholarship Program for AFTE

Every year, the Association of Firearms Trademark and Tool Examiners (AFTE) sponsors a scholarship program in which $2,000 grants are awarded to exemplary students pursuing a bachelor’s, master’s, PhD, or professional degree in forensic science.

Qualified candidates must be registered at least half-time, have a university degree in natural or biological sciences, a minimum average of three (3), a lower or higher level, and a desire to become a forensic scientist.

Any candidate working on a project particularly relevant to the weapon or tool brand test will be given preference.

Scholars Program of the American Chemical Society

For the past two decades, the American Chemical Society (ACS) has offered a scholarship program in which up to $5,000 per year is awarded to underrepresented minority-language students pursuing a university degree in chemistry, forensic chemistry, toxicology, or chemical technology.

Candidates for African Americans, Native Americans, and Hispanics / Latinos must be citizens of the United States. Be enrolled full-time at an accredited university, have a minimum GPA of 3, and intend to pursue a career in any chemistry-related subject, including forensic science.

An official transcript, ACT/SAT scores, two letters of recommendation, and proof of financial need must be included with applications.

Northeast Forensic Scientists Association

Students seeking for the Northeast Association of Forensic Scientists scholarship (amount not specified) must be in their third or final year of a forensic science program or have a postgraduate degree in the area.

Candidates must be in good academic standing, get referral letters from forensic science instructors, and write a letter of 250 to 500 words explaining their goals.

They must also attend a university in one of the following states: Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New York State, Connecticut, New Jersey, or Pennsylvania.

Annual ASCLD Scholarship Awards

Annual $1,000 scholarships are granted by the American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors (ASCLD) to college students, seniors, and graduates pursuing a degree in forensic science, forensic chemistry, or a physical and natural science-related field.

Qualified bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate students must attend an accredited American institution, enroll in a FEPAC-approved program, and obtain support from a faculty member or laboratory director’s recommendation.

Candidates will be chosen based on their academic records, personal statements, recommendations, and demonstrated ambition to pursue a scientific career.

Forensic Sciences Scholarship in Honor of Ellis R. Kerley

To honor the pioneering forensic anthropologist who created the Kerley method for positively identifying bone remains, the Ellis R. Kerley Fellowship in Forensic Science will offer up to $2,500 each to encourage exceptional students to explore Make a Difference in Forensic Anthropology.

Applicants must be enrolled in a graduate program leading to a master’s or doctoral degree, must be sponsored by an ABFA member, and must be an AAFS student member.

Online applications must be supported by an official transcript, a reference letter, and a two-page document stating the goals of forensic anthropological candidates.

Graduate Scholarship for Emily R. Murphy

The Emily R. Murphy Graduate Scholarship was established at Virginia Commonwealth University by the Department of Forensic Sciences to honor a young dynamic student who has dedicated herself to the profession of Forensic Pathologist before tragically losing her life in a car accident at the age of 22 in Washington.

Eligible Washington DC applicants must be full-time M.S. graduate students in the Forensic Science program, have outstanding academic credentials, and write a 500-word essay outlining your leadership potential in forensic science.

Each spring, beneficiaries will be chosen based on academic achievement, dedication, and initiative.

J. Edgar Hoover Scientific Scholarship

The J. Edgar Hoover Foundation has established a scholarship worth $25,000 in honor of the founder of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the father of contemporary law enforcement in the United States.

This Forensic science scholarship 2020 is available to students who wish to pursue a university degree or postgraduate degree in forensic science in order to begin a career in the application of federal legislation. Candidates must have at least junior position, play a key role in criminal investigations, be US citizens, and demonstrate Hoover’s devotion to justice.

Johnson-Whyte Memorial Scholarships

The International Association for Identification (IAI) is happy to present the Johnson-Whyte Memorial Scholarship Fund, which awards annual prizes to junior, senior, and senior alumni graduate degrees who are actively studying forensic science.

Candidates must be enrolled full-time at a CHEA-accredited college, have a minimum GPA of 3, demonstrate financial need, and desire employment in the forensic identification profession.

Mike Byrd Science Scholarship

The Mike Byrd Scientific Scholarship of $1,000 each year is offered by the Police Officers Assistance Fund (POAT) to graduating high school seniors or full-time college students from Miami-Dade, Broward, or Monroe counties in Florida who are pursuing a scientific career in crime scene investigation.

Eligible applicants must be the sons or daughters of law enforcement personnel in Miami-Dade County, aim to declare a speciality in forensic science or forensic science, have a minimum grade point average of 2.5, and have demonstrated success in the field of science, criminal investigation.

Applications must be supported by a certified transcript, proof of university registration, and two letters of recommendation.

Mike Byrd Science Scholarship

NEAFS Scholarship Program

Since its founding in 1976, the Northeastern Association of Forensic Scientists (NEAFS) has created an annual scholarship program to grant $1,000 to undergraduate and graduate students pursuing a recognized degree in Forensic Science.

Qualified candidates must have at least a junior level and a solid academic status in a four-year institution in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, or New York.

In addition to the completed application form, applicants must include two letters of reference from forensic science teachers and a 500-word letter detailing their career ambitions.

Sigrid and Cyril Wecht Forensic Science Scholarship

In honor of the previous head of Duquesne University’s Cyril H. Wecht Institute of Forensic Sciences and Law, the Sigrid and Cyril Wecht Forensic Scholarship is granted each year at a cost of $1,000 to new students or students currently enrolled in the Institute.

To be eligible, Forensic Scientists and Forensic Administrators must be enrolled full-time in the Master of Forensic Science, the Master of Science in Nursing Sciences, or the Postgraduate Diploma in Forensic Science.

Academic excellence, financial need, recommendations, and individuals’ demonstrated commitment to social justice will all be considered in their selection.

Scholarship in Memory of Sandy Jeffers

Since 2003, the Sandy Jeffers Memorial Scholarship has been offered yearly at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville to current undergraduate students studying historical or forensic anthropology in the Department of Anthropology.

Interested candidates must submit a full application form along with a complete academic record, a financial budget plan, and a letter of intent stating their interest in the subject of anthropology for consideration.

Beneficiaries will be chosen purely based on their academic achievements, financial needs, and dedication to historical or medico-legal anthropology.

Undergraduate Scholarship in Nuclear Forensics

The Nuclear Criminology Grant Program, administered by the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS), awards a $10,000 annual scholarship to undergraduate students studying forensics, physics, chemistry, nuclear engineering, or materials science.

Candidates must be enrolled full-time in an accredited college, be US residents, and show a strong commitment to pursuing a career in the nuclear forensic community after graduation.

Recipients will be encouraged to engage in their own nuclear forensic investigation assignment by completing a 9- to 12-week summer research program at the Office of Nuclear Detection.

Scholarship in Forensic Sciences from NJAFS

Every year, the New Jersey Association of Forensic Scientists (NJAFS) awards $1,000 bursaries to undergraduate students pursuing a degree in forensic sciences, natural sciences, chemistry, or biology with the obvious intention of pursuing a career in forensic science.

Eligible applicants must be current members, live in New Jersey, attend an accredited post-secondary institution inside or outside of the state, be at least a junior level, and exhibit academic distinction with a minimum grade point average of 3.0.

Applicants must send all academic transcripts, two recommendation forms, and a brief personal essay highlighting their contribution to the field of forensic science together with the application form.
