DELSU Joins ASUU’s One-Month Warning Strike

The Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, has joined the one-month warning strike of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in solidarity with its faculty and staff members (ASUU).

Following an emergency meeting of the association conducted on Wednesday in Abraka, members of the DELSU chapter of the organization joined their colleagues.

According to sources present at the meeting, Professor Godwin Demaki, the chairman of the DELSU ASUU, presided over the meeting, during which members unanimously agreed to participate in the strike action.

It was also learned that members had also adopted the resolutions of the national body prior to proclaiming their intention to participate in the strike.

DELSU has been absent from ASUU operations for some years as a result of a conflict with the national leadership.

A source who attended the meeting shared that “everyone unanimously resolved to participate in the warning strike for the next four weeks in order to pound home the demands of our members throughout the country.”

Academic operations at the institution were believed to have been halted on Wednesday as a result of the DELSU chapter’s announcement, with lecturers staying away from their respective classes.

Because the federal government has failed to honor an agreement signed for the support of Nigerian universities, the national leadership of ASUU has declared a one-month warning strike, starting on Monday.
