The C.A.S. Hawker Scholarship is worth up to $60,000 over three years. They are residential scholarships in honor of one of Australia’s most illustrious pastoral pioneers.

Prior to his untimely death in the Kyeema aviation crash in 1938, Charles Hawker participated in the First World War and went on to become a respected scholar and major figure in the Federal Parliament.

The late Kathleen Lilias Needham founded the Charles Allan Seymour Hawker Memorial Scholarship Trust Fund to honor her brother, South Australian born Charles Allan Seymour Hawker, through a memorial scholarship.

About the Flinders University

The Flinders University is located in Adelaide, South Australia. It was founded in 1966 and named after Matthew Flinders, who explored and mapped the South Australian coastline in the early nineteenth century.

Flinders is an ecofriendly university[citation needed] and a member of the Innovative Research Universities (IRU) Group, ranking 10-16 in Australia and 36th in the world among universities founded in the last 50 years. The C.A.S. Hawker Scholarships are worth up to $60,000 over a three-year period.

Successful applicants will be able to study at Flinders University while living at St Mark’s College in North Adelaide.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must be:

  • Citizens of Australia
  • Students in their first year of an undergraduate degree are typically considered, although students in their second and third years, as well as postgraduate students, may also be considered.

     

Successful applicants are those who most convincingly demonstrate their potential as a future leader, their contribution to their school and community, and their academic abilities, in keeping with C.A.S. Hawker’s example as a leader and his contribution and service to Australia.
