For the academic year 2022-2023, the University of South Australia has established the MF & MH Joyner Higher Degree by Research Scholarships.
This project will allow Contemporary Art graduate students to pursue their own research themes and issues, with the goal of advancing visual arts understanding and practice. Experimental art methods or new art paradigms are accepted.
Selected candidates receive a $30,000 annual living allowance. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants will receive a $45,076 year stipend and a fee offset or waiver for the program’s normal length. To be considered, applicants must have relevant academic credentials (e.g., Visual Art Honours).

Eligibility Criteria
- Eligible Countries: Australia
- Eligible Courses or Subjects: Applicants may pursue any PhD or Master by Research in the 2D, 3D, or 4D disciplines offered by the University of South Australia.
- Eligibility Requirements: To qualify, applicants must satisfy all of the following criteria:
- The applicants may be Australian and New Zealand citizens, permanent Australian residents, and holders of permanent humanitarian visas.
- The applicants must present a portfolio of creative works and documentation of their participation in exhibits of visual arts at approved venues.
- The applicants must submit samples of critical writing on the philosophy and practice of visual art.

- How to Apply: Students must fill out an application through the university’s application portal. Students who are interested must fill out a separate application form.

- Admission requirements: Applicants must have an honors degree or a Bachelor’s degree with Honors of at least class 2a standard in a relevant field.
- Language requirements: Applicants must be able to speak English well enough to meet the university’s requirements.
