The Rotary Foundation (TRF) and the IHE Delft Institute for Water Education aim to address the world’s water and sanitation crisis by increasing the number of trained professionals in developing and emerging countries who can devise, plan, and implement solutions. A limited number of scholarships are awarded annually through this partnership to graduate students at the IHE Delft Institute for Water Education’s campus in the Netherlands.
The purpose of these scholarships is to foster long-term productive relationships between Rotarians and highly skilled water and sanitation professionals in their communities. Since the partnership’s inception in 2012, approximately 150 scholarships have been awarded.
The following is the application procedure: Rotarians interview and select local candidates who have already been admitted to the regular MSc Programme in Water and Sustainable Development at the IHE Delft Institute for Water Education, in one of the following thematic tracks:
- Water and Health
- Water Resources and Ecosystems Health
- Water Hazards, Risks and Climate

Eligibility Criteria
- A bachelor’s degree from a recognized institution of higher learning is required.
- Must be interested in gaining knowledge and skills in the fields of water and health, as well as water resources and ecosystem health.
- Excellent academic and leadership abilities are required.
How to apply
- Fill out the application form
- Students admitted to the 12-month Master of Science program in Water and Sustainable Development at the IHE Delft Institute for Water Education can be nominated by a local Rotary Club in their home community by submitting the application form for a scholarship to the Rotary/IHE Delft committee in the Netherlands, along with the student’s resume and the IHE Delft admission letter.
- The application form must be sent to the Rotary/IHE Delft committee in the Netherlands via email at rotary.ihescholarship@gmail.com.
- We recommend that you prepare and submit your online application for admission to the MSc programme in Water and Sustainable Development 2023 as soon as possible, because you will be unable to apply for the scholarship unless you have an admission letter.
