The Medical Research Council-funded London Intercollegiate Doctoral Training Partnership (MRC LID) is a collaboration between St George’s University of London (SGUL) and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) (MRC).
The MRC LID brings together two exceptional specialty schools to provide integrated skills training in order to build a cohort of biomedical and public health scientists with world-class competence in areas of strategic relevance to UK and worldwide medical research.

About the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM)
LSHTM was founded in the London Docks in 1899 and is today situated in Bloomsbury, with two main campuses on Keppel Street and Tavistock Place, as well as satellite campuses in The Gambia and Uganda.

Scholarship Benefit
For the duration of the award each MRC LID Studentship will provide :
- tuition fees at the UKRI Studentship rate +
- annual stipend at the UKRI Studentship rate with London weighting +
- additional support for research and training.
The MRC LID Studentship rates are the same as the UKRI Studentship rates. All figures are in full-time equivalents (FTE). These are prorated based on registration dates and manner of study.

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must possess, or intend to acquire, an undergraduate degree (or comparable credentials obtained outside the UK) in a relevant field by September 2023. Applicants should ideally have a 1st or 2.1 Honours undergraduate degree. In order to give a competitive comparison, applicants with a 2.2 undergraduate degree (or equivalent) should clearly demonstrate their relevant past experience and abilities, as well as their preparedness to do a PhD, in their application.
Applicants for +4 Studentships should preferably have, or intend to receive, a relevant Masters degree, or a combination of relevant degrees and experience demonstrating similar aptitude and accomplishment. This might involve working or interning in a related workplace. Transcripts and job history will be scrutinized.
