Eligibility Criteria

You must meet the general eligibility criteria and regulations of the BME Music Scholar’s Fee Waiver at the Goldsmiths University of London for you to be eligible which include:

  • The fee waiver is available to Home applicants who identify as Black, Asian, or a minority ethnicity.

How to apply

After a conditional or unconditional offer of admission has been made, candidates may apply for the scholarship.

To apply for the scholarship, you must submit the following:

  • A 300-word statement describing the broad areas of musical work and research you intend to pursue at the postgraduate level, including Master’s-level work and, if applicable, subsequent MPhil/PhD-level study. This statement will not be evaluated formally, but it will serve as an overview of your academic interests and potential career path.
  • A portfolio of work whose contents vary depending on the programme in question. Applicants to MA programmes must submit between three and five written pieces. At least two of these should be academic essays with a minimum length of 2,000 words. The remaining works may be journalistic, critical, reflective, etc. writings about music. Also considered are works on music in other media formats (video, audio-visual). Applicants to MMus programmes must submit a comprehensive portfolio of their creative work. Examples include performance, songwriting, production, documentation of audio-visual and/or site-specific/installation works, and compositions/scores. These examples may be presented via any suitable medium.

The portfolio should be accompanied by a 300-500-word contextual reflective commentary that outlines the ideas and creative processes underlying the creative work.
