The newly elected officials of the FUTA Students’ Union (FUTASU), comprising the Students’ Executives Council (SEC) and Hall Executives Council (HEC), held their first official meeting with the leadership of the Students’ Affairs Division. The meeting was hosted by the Dean of Students, Professor David Oke.
Comrade Taiwo Abejoye, the President-Elect, stated that the purpose of the meeting was to familiarize the new executives with the Division and introduce themselves to its leadership. He emphasized the importance of building a strong relationship with the Students’ Affairs Division.
Professor David Oke, supported by the Sub-Dean, Dr. Okewale, commended the new executives for their display of unity. He advised them to adopt negotiation and collaboration as their primary leadership tools, stressing the importance of protecting the university’s name.
In response, the President-Elect expressed gratitude for the warm reception. He highlighted the executives’ understanding of the power of collaboration and their readiness to work with the Students’ Affairs Division for the university’s progress and the protection of students’ interests.
“I will not compromise in defending the interests of the students. The new executives will also not betray the trust that the students have in us. We will maintain the relevance of the Union while promoting the FUTA brand,” Comrade Taiwo Abejoye said.
The new leaders of the Students’ Union promised to prioritize the welfare of the students who elected them. They reiterated their commitment to creating a FUTASU that serves all students effectively.
