These scholarships are open to all high-achieving Brock students engaged in or applying for admission to a full-time graduate program. The annual value of an OGS prize is $15,000.

Scholarship Benefit

Students may receive an award for two terms ($10,000) or three terms ($15,000), with the majority of financial aid positions awarded for three terms. Brock University does not offer one-term awards.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: All nationalities
  • Eligible Subjects or courses: The scholarship will be awarded in the Brock University Faculty of Graduate Studies program.
  • Eligibility Requirements: To be eligible for an OGS or QEII-GSST award, a student must meet the following criteria:
  • A Canadian citizen, Permanent Resident, or Protected Person under subsection 95(2) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (Canada) at the time of the application deadline;
  • Enrolled at a publicly-assisted university in Ontario in a full-time program that leads to a graduate degree and is approved for operating grant purposes by the ministry; and Enrolled in 60% or more of a full course load Additionally, in order to be considered for a QEII-GSST award, a student must:
  • Be enrolled in a master’s or doctorate research program in a science or technology field; and (see Appendix One for a list of eligible science and technology disciplines). International students who are authorized to study in Ontario under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (Canada) are eligible for the OGS international student scholarships. They are ineligible for QEII-GSST awards, though. Before award funding is granted to a student, institutions must confirm, for ministry purposes, that the student possesses a valid study permit. However, institutions are free to establish stricter criteria for when the study permission should be granted.
  • Students beginning their first or second year of graduate school at the time of the application deadline must have earned a first-class average in each of their last two years of study, as established by the host institution (full-time equivalent). At the time of the application deadline, graduate students entering their third year or beyond must have an overall grade point average of at least A- (or equivalent) in all graduate courses taken.
  • If masters or doctoral degree marks utilized for determining an applicants grade point average (GPA) are unavailable (e.g., courses were rated pass/fail), the universitys Graduate Studies Office will use the most recent undergraduate or graduate marks to determine a students GPA.

How to apply

  • How to Apply: Those who want to apply for the program will have to get into the OGS graduate program at the university. After that, those who want to apply for this funding program can do so at the university.
  • Documents in Support: Students must provide admission based on documents that are not official.
  • Transcripts: All official transcripts from college and graduate school that show you are currently enrolled are needed, along with one copy of the transcript legend.
  • Referees: At least two academic references are needed by most programs.
  • Scores on Language Tests
  • Resume/CV
  • Academic Assessment Report – 2 needed (to be submitted by the referee – see below)
  • The academic report and letter of support must be turned in by the date listed above.
  • Admissions Requirements: Students need to make sure they meet all of Brock University’s admissions requirements.
  • Language requirement: Applicants must get at least a certain score on one of the following tests of English language proficiency:
  • TOEFL: Internet-Based Test Minimum overall score of 80; no subtest score less than 19
  • IELTS: (Academic) Minimum overall score of 6.5; no subtest score less than 5.5
  • CAEL: minimum overall score of 60, with a minimum score of 60 in writing and no subtest score below 50
  • CAEL CE (Computer Edition): Minimum overall score of 60, with a writing score of 60 and no other subtest score below 50 PTE. Academics: Minimum overall grade of 60, with no subtest grade lower than 60
  • Can Examine Students and Trainees: Minimum overall score of 4.5; no subtest score less than 4.0
