About the RMIT University

RMIT University (officially Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, abbreviated RMIT) is a public research university in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.

Francis Ormond founded the Working Men’s College of Melbourne in 1887 as a private night school giving training in art, science, and technology in response to Australia’s industrial revolution. After combining with the Phillip Institute of Technology in 1992, it was become a public university by an act of the Victoria Parliament.

Scholarship Benefits

The DF CRC–RMIT scholarship provides applicants with the following benefits:

- Sponsored Ads -

  • An annual payment of $60,000 pro rata (full-time study)
  • An annual research support allowance of $10,000
  • International recipients also get an RTP International Tuition Fee Offset Scholarship (RIFOS) or an RMIT Research International Tuition Fee Scholarship (RRITFS)
  • An RTP Fee Offset scholarship is granted to all local candidates who are Australian, New Zealand, or permanent residents of Australia. Applicants receiving an RTP Fee Offset scholarship are exempt from paying tuition fees for the duration of their studies.

The standard full-time term is three years. Applicants may request a six-month extension, pending satisfactory progress and approval from the institution, CRC, and industry partner.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for this scholarship, you must satisfy the following requirements:

  • Meet the academic prerequisites for admission to RMIT’s Doctor of Philosophy programs.
  • Have experience in finance, economics, the law, or computer science.
  • Be a citizen or permanent resident of Australia, or an overseas student who meets the minimal English language criteria.
  • Possess effective verbal and written communication abilities.

How to apply

The RMIT PhD application procedure and the DF CRC scholarship application process are separate. To be eligible for the scholarship, applications must be submitted to the DF CRC and RMIT in the following order:

  • This scholarship program does not support initiatives initiated by students. If you are awarded a DF CRC scholarship, you will be paired with one of the DF CRC members to conduct an industry-based PhD research project.
  • The RMIT EoI/application procedure is independent of the DF CRC scholarship program, and receiving a DF CRC scholarship does not ensure admission to the RMIT PhD program.
