An organization’s network infrastructure is managed by a Computer Network Technician, who is also sometimes referred to simply as a Network Technician.

This person is responsible for the installation of, operation of, maintenance of, upgrades to, and repairs to computer and network equipment.

In addition to developing and managing an organization’s internet, intranets, and extranets, computer network technicians are responsible for the maintenance, resolution, and supervision of the use of local area networks (LANs) and wide area networks (WANs).

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and administrate the utilization of mainframe networks, local area networks (LANs), and wide area networks (WANs), as well as computer workstations and peripheral devices.
  • Perform an analysis of the computer hardware, as well as the installation of the operating system software and networking software.
  • Conduct operations on master consoles to coordinate access to and use of computer networks, as well as to monitor the functioning of computer systems and networks.

  • Prepare the computer by loading tapes and disks, installing software, and setting up the printer with paper and forms.
