MEXT Scholarship 2022-2023 is a fully funded international student scholarship. This award is accessible to students pursuing undergraduate, master’s, doctoral, and training programs. The MEXT scholarship will cover tuition, housing, a monthly living allowance, and round-trip flights from your home country to Japan.
Under the Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarships Program, the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) awards scholarships to international students who intend to study at Japanese universities as undergraduate or research (masters / PhD) students.
The MEXT Japanese Government Scholarship application cycle is usually issued in April. This scholarship does not require knowledge of Japanese or the IELTS/TOEFL.
This is a scholarship that has been recommended by the Mext embassy. You’ll submit your application to the Japanese embassy in your country. (All embassies’ websites are listed below).

Coverage of MEXT Scholarships
MEXT Scholarship 2023 is a fully funded scholarship that allows international students to study for free in Japan. The following perks will be provided to the recipient of this scholarship:
- Allowances: Stipend Allowance, Preparatory Allowance, Monthly Stipend Allowance (2022 Rate)
- MEXT will cover the costs of the entrance examination and tuition fees at universities.
- Expenses for travel: Transportation to Japan: MEXT will pay for your round-trip air fare from your home country to Japan. For the flight, the airline ticket will be in Economy class.
- Accommodations: Universities provide residence halls for international students.

MEXT Scholarship 2023 Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the MEXT Scholarship, a candidate must meet all of the standards listed below:
- English is a required language.
- All countries in the world are eligible.
- Applicants must be citizens of a country with which Japan has diplomatic ties.
- Applicants who are Japanese citizens at the time of application are ineligible.
- Undergraduate Students: You must be at least 17 years old and under 25 years old, with a minimum of 12 years of schooling or courses equivalent to a high school diploma (includes prospective graduates)
- Students pursuing a master’s or doctoral degree must be under 35 years old and hold a bachelor’s degree (includes prospective graduates). Alternatively, you must have completed 16 or 18 years of schooling.
- You must be under 35 years old and a graduate of a college or teacher training college to be considered for teacher training. You must have worked as a teacher at a primary, secondary, or teacher training college in your country for at least five years.
- Applicants must be between the ages of 18 and 30 for Japanese study students.
- Applicants must be enrolled as undergraduate students in faculties or schools in a university outside of Japan that major in Japanese language or Japanese culture at the time of their visit to Japan, and must be enrolled in their home institution when they return to their home countries.

How can you apply for the MEXT Scholarship in 2023?
To apply for the MEXT Scholarship, please follow the instructions below:
- From this page, you may locate the Japanese Embassy or Consulate in your country.
- Visit the Japanese Embassy’s webpage in your country. The MEXT scholarship can be found under the Education / Scholarship tab.
- Fill out the MEXT scholarship application form after downloading it.
- Submit the appropriate documents to the Japanese Embassy in your country (see list below).
- The Japanese Embassy will administer a written test. Here is a link to a sample written test with answers.
- Following that, the candidates will be interviewed.
- Successful candidates will be notified via email via the embassy’s website.

MEXT Scholarship 2023 Documents Required
- Application for MEXT Scholarship
- The greatest level of education, as evidenced by official stamps.
- Applicants for the bachelor’s program must have completed 12 years of education.
- Applicants for master’s programs must have a bachelor’s degree.
- Applicants for the Ph.D. program must have a master’s degree.
- Note: If the degree is not in English, a notarized copy of a translation in English is required.

Note: If the diploma is not in English, it must be accompanied by a notarized copy of an English translation.
(4) Two letters of recommendation: The letters of recommendation must be written in either English or Spanish by the applicant’s instructors, advisors, or employers (who may evaluate your academic performance and research potential). (for students doing research)

(9) English Language Proficiency Document: Students whose language institute was in English are excluded from the Language Test if they submit an English Proficiency Certificate from their home university.
