How to Apply
Follow every step in the correct order. Skipping or combining steps will result in an incomplete application that will not be reviewed.
Step 1: Apply for and obtain admission to the KIT Master of Public Health and Health Equity 2026-2027. You cannot apply for the scholarship without first receiving unconditional admission to the programme. Begin this process as early as possible if you have not already done so.
Step 2: Confirm you meet all KIT Fund eligibility criteria. Review the eligibility section of this post and the full Rules and Regulations of the KIT Fund on the official website. Only proceed if you meet every requirement.
Step 3: Write your KIT Fund motivation letter. This must be a completely separate document from the motivation letter you submitted for programme admission. It should explain why you are applying to the KIT Fund and how you plan to use your skills for the public good after graduation. Aim for clarity and specificity.
Step 4: Write your 500 to 700 word essay. Describe a real public health problem you have encountered in the past two years. Explain the impact on your community and health system, and state how you intend to address it through your studies at KIT.
Step 5: Update your CV. Make sure it includes your current email address and telephone numbers where you can be reached easily. This is explicitly required by KIT Fund.
Step 6: Upload all three documents to your existing file in the KIT Online Application System. Go to your application file and upload the motivation letter, essay, and CV under “Other documents.” Name each file exactly as instructed: “Your name, Motivation KIT Fund 2026-2027” and “Your name, Essay KIT Fund 2026-2027”. If the system has upload problems, try again a few times. If the problem persists, email your documents to courses@kit.nl.
Step 7: Confirm all three documents are successfully uploaded before proceeding. Do not fill in the application form until your uploads are complete. KIT will not accept incomplete files.
Step 8: Complete and submit the KIT Fund online application form. Access the form on the official KIT Fund scholarship page. Only fill this in after all documents are uploaded. Submitting the form completes your application.
Step 9: Submit everything before April 26, 2026, at 12:00 noon CET. This is a firm deadline. Applications received after this time will not be reviewed.
Step 10: Prepare for a possible interview. Shortlisted candidates will be contacted for a Zoom interview during the week of May 11, 2026. Make sure the contact details on your CV and application are correct so you do not miss this communication.
Step 11: If selected, respond within 8 days of notification. You must agree to the KIT Fund Rules and Regulations and sign the scholarship commitment agreement within 8 days of being informed of your selection. Failure to do so will result in the scholarship being offered to the next candidate.

Selection Criteria
The KIT Fund selection board reviews each application holistically. Here is what they look for:
- Commitment to Public Health Work: Your professional history must show a clear and proven dedication to serving the public, especially disadvantaged or underserved populations. Work in remote rural areas is specifically cited as an example. This must be visible in your documents.
- Relevance of Your Work to KIT’s Expertise: The selection board looks for candidates whose field of work would directly benefit from KIT-level training. Generic or corporate health sector backgrounds are less likely to be competitive.
- Quality and Specificity of Your Motivation Letter: Your KIT Fund motivation letter must explain clearly why you are applying to this specific fund, not just this programme. Vague motivations will not stand out.
- Public Health Essay Quality: Your essay is a direct test of your analytical thinking and your connection to real public health challenges. The selection board wants to see a specific problem, real consequences, and a meaningful plan to address it.
- Plans for Impact After Graduation: You must demonstrate concrete plans to return to your home country and apply your skills. Scholarship recipients sign a formal agreement to this effect. Candidates who show a clear, realistic post-study plan are more competitive.
- Priority Profiles: While not mandatory, applicants from fragile states, applicants from Indonesia, and applicants with a background or strong interest in SRHR receive additional encouragement from KIT. These profiles align with the KIT Fund’s strategic priorities.
- Interview Performance: Shortlisted candidates will attend a Zoom interview during the week of May 11, 2026. How clearly and convincingly you can speak to your motivations, your professional experience, and your post-study plans will influence the final decision.
Important Tips
- Secure your programme admission first. You cannot apply for this scholarship without unconditional admission to the KIT MPH-HE 2026-2027. If you are not yet admitted, apply to the programme immediately and pursue scholarship eligibility in parallel.
- Write two completely separate motivation letters. One was submitted for your programme application. The KIT Fund requires a different letter that speaks specifically to the Fund’s mission and your public health commitment. Do not recycle or lightly edit your original letter.
- Make your essay personal and specific. The 500 to 700 word essay must describe a real public health problem you have personally experienced in the last two years. Generalizations will not work. Choose a specific example, explain the community impact, and connect it directly to your intended studies.
- Name your uploaded files exactly as instructed. KIT requires specific file naming: “Your name, Motivation KIT Fund 2026-2027” and “Your name, Essay KIT Fund 2026-2027.” Incorrect file names can cause your documents to be misidentified or overlooked.
- Upload before you submit the form. The application form must only be completed after all three documents are uploaded. KIT is explicit that the form alone does not constitute a complete application.
- Do not wait until April 26 to upload your documents. The system may experience congestion near the deadline. Upload your documents early and use the remaining time to review your form before submitting.
- Keep your contact details current and correct. Shortlisted candidates are contacted for Zoom interviews. If your email or phone number on your CV and application form are outdated or incorrect, you could miss the most important communication in the entire process.
- Do not email KIT with eligibility questions. The university has explicitly stated that no individual queries about this scholarship opportunity will be answered due to time constraints. It is entirely your responsibility to ensure your application is complete and eligible before submitting.
- Read the full KIT Fund Rules and Regulations. The official document contains the complete list of eligibility requirements and post-award obligations, including the agreement you will be required to sign. Read it before you apply so there are no surprises.
- Be ready to commit quickly if selected. You have only 8 days to accept the scholarship after being notified. Ensure you are reachable and prepared to respond immediately during late May 2026.
