This scholarship is possible due to the Thorburn family’s generous contribution.

About the Flinders University

The public Flinders University is located in Adelaide, South Australia. It was founded in 1966 and named after Matthew Flinders, who explored and mapped the South Australian coastline in the early nineteenth century.

Flinders is a green university[citation needed] and a member of the Innovative Research Universities (IRU) Group, ranking 10-16 in Australia and 36th in the world among universities founded in the last 50 years.

The university pioneered a cross-disciplinary approach to teaching, and its faculties of medicine and the humanities are considered among the top 10 in the country.

Scholarship Benefits

Each year, one scholarship worth up to $2,000 will be awarded. After each semester’s main census date, payment will be made in two equal payments.

Eligibility Criteria

In order to be considered, applicants must:

  • Be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent in Australia; and
  • Identify as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Australian; and
  • Community acceptance as an Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander; and
  • Demonstrating adequate academic progress; and
  • Normally be enrolled in a Flinders University undergraduate or graduate coursework degree programme with a concentration in Indigenous Archaeology or Cultural Heritage Management.

Priority will be given to students who have completed at least one year of full-time tertiary study or its equivalent.

Online applications must be submitted via the Flinders University Student System. To submit an application, applicants must log in and navigate to the My Scholarships tab. This scholarship’s application form is titled “Jacqui Thorburn and Family Bursary for Indigenous Archaeology and Cultural Heritage Management,” and you can find it by searching for “Thorburn.” Please ensure that all of your personal information in the Student System is accurate, as you will be evaluated using this information.

Applicants are required to provide proof of their indigenous status. If you have this documentation already, please include it with your application. No student will receive a scholarship until this documentation is provided.
