The Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation is pleased to invite students to participate in the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grants program for the academic year 2022-2023. International students in Canada can enroll in the program.
The Foundation grant is intended to assist young artists who are about to begin their studies or are in the early stages of their careers, are working in painting, drawing, sculpture, or printmaking, and have the determination and talent to pursue a lifetime career in their art practice.
This award is given out on a national and international scale by highly regarded art professors, teachers, and mentors. The first grant is valued at CAD 17,000, and subsequent grants are valued at CAD 20,000.

About the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation
The Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation is a private Canadian charity founded in 1955 in memory of Charles Glass Greenshields, Q.C., a distinguished Montreal lawyer and amateur artist. More than 2000 students and artists from 80 countries have received financial assistance from the Foundation.
Scholarship Benefit
The Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation will contribute CAD 17,000 to the project. Each succeeding grant is worth CAD $20,000. Grants are given to recipients directly, without going through intermediaries or other organizations.

Eligibility Criteria
- Eligible Countries: All nationalities.
- The scholarship will be awarded in the fields of painting, drawing, sculpture, or printing.
- Eligibility Requirements: To qualify, applicants must meet all of the following requirements:
- The Foundation has no geographic, citizenship, or residency criteria; its grants are open to candidates from anywhere in the world.
- To be eligible to apply, applicants must be at least 18 years old and no older than 41 years old at the time they submit their application for a first grant.
- After the age of 41, candidates who have previously received a grant may reapply, providing they continue to meet all other eligibility requirements.
- Applicants must be either students or artists in the early stages of their careers who are establishing their careers.
- Grants are not meant to serve as labor or project grants for seasoned or mature artists.
How to apply
- How to Apply: Applications must be filled out and sent through the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation’s online application portal. Applications sent by email, mail, or in any other way will not be accepted.
- Supporting Documents: Applicants must give all the information and documents needed for the application and upload them all.
- Personal information includes the applicant’s full name, artist name (if any), gender, date of birth, contact information, country of citizenship, website URL, and how they heard about the Foundation.
- Proof of Identity: A government-issued photo ID and proof of citizenship, current address, and date of birth.
- Education and Training: A list of universities, colleges, and art schools attended, along with the degrees or diplomas earned and the date of graduation (or projected date).
- Exhibitions: A list of where the applicant’s work has been shown in the last five years or where it will be shown in the next two years.
- Portfolio: Pictures of no more than six representative works made in the two years before the date of the application.
- The applicant must be the only one who made these works.
- Proof of Acceptance: If the applicant wants to study or train in art further, a letter of acceptance or enrollment from the school or program where they want to study or train.
- Artistic Proposal: A description of the work, project, course of study, or training that the applicant wants to do with a grant from The Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation.
- Artist Statement: A short statement about the applicant’s past and present work as an artist.
- Budget: A budget for the proposed work, project, course of study, or training described in the applicant’s Artistic
- Proposal. Letter of Reference: A letter of reference from a teacher or professor, an artist or curator who knows both the applicant and their work and can support their application.
- Requirements for admission: Applicants must have a previous degree with good grades.
- Language requirement: Students must at least be able to talk in French or English.
Application Deadline
The Foundation accepts applications year-round; there is no annual application deadline.
