How to Apply
Follow each step carefully and in sequence. Missing any step could disqualify your application.
Step 1: Research your programme and identify a supervisor. Visit the Guangxi Minzu University international education website and download the 2026 programme catalogue (Attachment 1). Identify the programme that best matches your academic background and career goals. For doctoral applicants especially, research faculty members whose work aligns with your research interests.
Step 2: Contact a prospective supervisor at Guangxi Minzu University. Email the relevant department or faculty member directly to introduce yourself, explain your academic background, and express your research interests. This step is required because you need an invitation letter or pre-admission letter from a supervisor before you can complete your application.
Step 3: Obtain your pre-admission document. Secure an official admission letter, pre-admission letter, or invitation letter from your prospective supervisor, printed on the university’s official letterhead and sealed by the international students admission office. This document is compulsory and cannot be skipped.
Step 4: Gather and prepare all required documents. Collect your transcripts, diploma or enrolment proof, passport, language certificates, recommendation letters, and criminal record certificate. Arrange notarized translations for any documents not already in Chinese or English. Book your physical examination, noting that results are only valid for 6 months.
Step 5: Write your study plan. Prepare a plan of more than 1,000 words or characters in Chinese or English. Doctoral applicants must have it signed by their Chinese supervisor. The plan should explain your research direction, why you chose Guangxi Minzu University, which faculty or research group you intend to work with, and how your studies connect to your long-term goals.
Step 6: Request your two recommendation letters. Contact two professors or associate professors who can write in Chinese or English. Brief them on the scholarship requirements. Letters should address your study objectives in China and any existing connections between your current institution and Guangxi Minzu University.
Step 7: Register on the CSC scholarship portal. Go to https://studyinchina.csc.edu.cn/#/register and create your account if you do not already have one.
Step 8: Complete and submit the online application form. Fill in all sections of the form carefully. Select “Type B” as your programme category and enter Guangxi Minzu University’s institution code: 10608. Upload all required supporting documents clearly and in the correct format.
Step 9: Submit your online application before February 27, 2026. This is the deadline for applicants to submit all materials through the CSC Information System. Complete applications will be given priority in the review process.
Step 10: Prepare for the interview or written test. The Department of International Cooperation and Exchange will conduct interviews or written tests as part of the review process. Be ready to discuss your academic background, research goals, and suitability for your chosen programme.
Step 11: Respond to the pre-admission notification. If you are pre-admitted, you will be notified by email or through the International Student Service System. Log into the CSC portal and submit your pre-admission notification before March 25, 2026.
Step 12: Monitor your final admission result. After the university submits its recommendation list to the CSC by March 30, 2026, the CSC will conduct a final expert review. Successful applicants will be notified of their admission results by the Department of International Cooperation and Exchange, and results will be published on the university’s official website.

Application Deadline
The deadline for applicants to submit their online application through the CSC Information System is February 27, 2026.
The university’s final deadline for submitting its recommendation list to the China Scholarship Council is March 30, 2026.
Applications submitted after these deadlines will NOT be accepted. Given how close these dates are, begin your preparations immediately.
Selection Criteria
The selection process is multi-stage and competitive. Here is what is assessed at each level:
- Academic Background and Performance: Reviewers focus closely on your academic record from undergraduate studies onwards. Strong, consistent performance across all semesters is important. There is no published minimum GPA, but weak transcripts will be noticed.
- Language Proficiency: Your language certificates will be verified and assessed. For Chinese-taught programmes, a valid HSK Level 4 is the minimum. Missing or insufficient language documentation will end your application at the preliminary review stage.
- Research Ability and Potential: The teaching institutes review your scientific research ability, academic background, comprehensive quality, and development potential. This is assessed through your study plan, recommendation letters, and the interview or written test.
- Study Plan Quality: Your study plan must demonstrate a clear and realistic research direction, specific knowledge of the university’s strengths, and a meaningful connection to your long-term career goals. Vague or generic plans will not perform well.
- Recommendation Letters: Letters should speak to your study objectives in China, your existing academic relationships with prospective supervisors, and any inter-institutional cooperation. Generic praise carries little weight.
- Interview or Written Test Performance: Shortlisted applicants will be invited to complete an interview or written test organized by the Department of International Cooperation and Exchange. This assesses your overall suitability, communication ability, and academic readiness.
- Post-Enrollment Conduct: Once enrolled, scholarship recipients must pass an annual evaluation. Results of this evaluation determine whether the scholarship continues, is suspended, or is cancelled in the following academic year.
Important Tips
- Start contacting supervisors now. The pre-admission document is compulsory, and getting it requires building a relationship with a faculty member first. This takes time. Do not wait until the last week to reach out.
- Submit your online application well before February 27, 2026. The university explicitly states that applicants with complete materials will be given priority in the review process. Early, complete submissions have an advantage over last-minute ones.
- Book your physical examination immediately. The Foreigner Physical Examination Form results are only valid for 6 months. Make sure your exam is completed close enough to the deadline to remain valid, but not so late that it rushes your application.
- Get your criminal record certificate early. This document can take days or weeks to obtain depending on your country. It must typically be issued within 6 months of your application submission date, so timing matters.
- Tailor your study plan to Guangxi Minzu University specifically. Name the faculty members, research groups, or programmes you are interested in. Explain why this university, not just China in general. Generic plans are easy to spot and rarely succeed.
- Scan all documents using a professional device. The university specifically warns applicants that they bear full responsibility for unclear or unreadable uploaded materials. Do not use low-quality phone camera photos.
- Ensure your passport is valid beyond September 2026. If your passport expires before then, apply for a renewal before submitting your application. An expiring passport will halt your application.
- You can only apply to one university at a time. The CSC system does not allow simultaneous applications to multiple universities. Choose Guangxi Minzu University deliberately and focus all your effort on this single application.
- Doctoral applicants: get your supervisor to sign your study plan. This is a stated requirement. A study plan submitted without a supervisor’s signature is incomplete and risks being rejected.
- Keep copies of everything. Save copies of every document you upload and your submission confirmation from the CSC portal. You may need these during later stages of the review.
