Eligible Fields of Study

Fields of study are tailored to the development priorities of each partner country, with disciplines ranging from agriculture and environmental sciences to information technology and public policy, ensuring that scholarship holders gain skills directly applicable to their home economies. 

This means the eligible fields are not the same for every country. Each partner country has its own list of approved study programs. Common fields that frequently appear across partner country lists include:

Benefits

This is a fully funded scholarship. Here is what winners receive:

1. Monthly stipend for bachelor’s and master’s students: Bachelor’s and master’s students receive 620 euros per month to cover living costs including food and accommodation. 
2. Monthly stipend for PhD students: PhD students receive 1,025.50 euros per month. Monthly stipend for university teachers or researchers without a PhD: 1,025.50 euros per month. 
3. Monthly stipend for researchers or teachers with a PhD: 1,420 euros per month. Public university fee support: A public university fee stipend of 80 euros per month is also provided. 
4. Academic excellence bonus: Students with excellent academic performance receive a bonus of 50 euros per month for maintaining a GPA of 1.3. PhD exam bonus: PhD students who pass their required exams by the deadline receive an additional 170 euros per year. 
5. Translation and diploma authentication support: Support of approximately 33 euros is available for translation and authentication of diploma documents. 
6. Tuition fees: Tuition at public Slovak universities is covered as part of the scholarship agreement.
7. Accommodation assistance: Scholarship holders may apply for assistance concerning accommodation and formalities related to entering and staying in Slovakia from their host institution.

Required Documents

Prepare the following documents before you submit your application:

1. Valid passport (personal details pages)
2. Secondary school leaving certificate (for bachelor’s applicants), authenticated by a state authority if obtained outside Slovakia, with certified translation into English, Slovak, Czech, French, or Spanish
3. University degree certificate and diploma supplement (for master’s or PhD applicants), authenticated if obtained outside Slovakia

12. Signed and printed application form with the confirmation section attached as a scan

All documents submitted in languages other than Slovak or English must be officially translated. Translation can be certified by the same institution that issued the respective document. 

The applicant is obliged to keep and archive all originals of documents that they have attached to the online application in electronic format, and if requested, must submit these originals or certified copies to the programme administrator. 

How to Apply

Step 1: Check the official list of eligible countries and fields of study. Visit www.minedu.sk and download the “List of Scholarships of the Government of the SR 2026/2027” file. Confirm that your country is listed and note which fields of study are approved for your country.

Step 2: Identify a suitable Slovak public university and program. Research public universities in Slovakia that offer the approved fields for your country. Check their admission requirements, language of instruction, and any specific entry tests.

Step 3: Obtain an acceptance or invitation letter from your target Slovak institution, if required. Some universities will issue a letter of acceptance or invitation that must be attached to your application. Contact the international office of your chosen university early.

Step 4: Prepare all required documents. Gather your transcripts, certificates, recommendation letters, motivation letter, passport copy, and photograph. Get all non-English and non-Slovak documents officially translated and authenticated.

Step 5: Register and complete the online application form. For the 2026/2027 academic year, applications can be submitted electronically between 23 March 2026 and 25 May 2026 Vladnestipendia on the portal at www.vladnestipendia.sk.

Step 6: Upload all mandatory attachments to the online form. If any mandatory attachments are not attached to the application form, the application will not be accepted by the Ministry and will be automatically excluded from the nomination process. 

Step 7: Print and sign the completed application form. Attach a scan of the signed “Confirmation” section as required.

Step 8: Submit your application before the deadline of 25 May 2026. Do not wait until the last day. Technical issues and delays in document gathering are common reasons applicants miss out.

Step 9: Await notification from the Ministry. The Ministry will review all complete applications and communicate results to shortlisted candidates.

Step 10: If selected, follow through on enrollment. To become a scholarship holder, you must be officially enrolled in your selected study program at a public Slovak institution. The scholarship is only activated upon confirmed enrollment.

Applications submitted after this date will NOT be accepted.

Selection Criteria

The Slovak Ministry of Education reviews applications based on the following considerations:

Important Tips

1. Download the country list early. The “List of Scholarships of the Government of the SR 2026/2027” tells you exactly how many scholarships your country has and which fields are approved. Do this before anything else so you do not waste time applying for an ineligible program.
2. Contact Slovak universities directly and early. Some universities issue acceptance letters that you may need to attach to your application. Do not wait until March to reach out. Start in January or February to give yourself enough time.
