An 81-year-old woman’s ambition comes true when she earns a bachelor’s degree from a US university and plans to enroll in a master’s program.
Janice Hall, an extraordinary 81-year-old woman, has graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Bethel University in Minnesota, USA, realizing a lifelong desire.
50 years after she first enrolled, Janice—who is now the mother of three children, 14 granddaughters, and 17 great-grandchildren—graduated from Bethel University. She successfully completed her organizational management bachelor’s degree.
“I had some free time.” I had a great career during those years of employment. Regarding my professional activities, no one ever requested a degree from me, so I just kept working and doing what I knew best, and I was successful in that. But I had finishing college at the back of my mind at all times. And I did now,” she remarked.
She said that after retiring nine years ago, she once again focused more on graduation. She explained, “I thought this was a good opportunity to finish what I started because I was bored and doing nothing.”
Janice began her degree program in 1973 but was unable to complete it due to a major vehicle accident. She then got a job and started a family.
She worked for several of the mayors of South Bend over her lengthy career in human resources. Janice has overcome several obstacles over the years, such as a stroke, two bouts of breast cancer, and the death of her spouse.
