Ikanna Okim, the well-known journalist Sunny Okim’s daughter, has been granted full scholarship to Oxford University to pursue a master’s degree.
She made history in 2021 when she graduated from the University of Uyo (UNIUYO) with first-class honors in law, becoming the first student to do so in 36 years. She also graduated with honors from the Nigerian Law School the next year.

As an Oxford-Hackney BCL graduate scholar, Okim will attend Oxford, and after earning her master’s, she intends to pursue a PhD in corporate and commercial law. Ikanna reflected on her path and gave credit to her father’s career as a writer as well as a nurturing environment that encouraged inquiry and independent thought. She acknowledged the influence of her family and academic professors in shaping her accomplishments and conveyed her gratitude for their support.

Sunny Okim, Ikanna’s father, is the Nigerian online newspaper’s publisher, The Frontier.
