Temilade Openiyi is a Nigerian prominent female artiste who was born on June 11, 1995. Her musical style is a fusion of Afrobeats, R&B, and Alté, which places her at the junction of these three genres of music.

Tems was born into a Yoruba family on June 11th, 1995. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Openiyi, are both Yoruba. Her Nigerian mother was born in the United Kingdom, which is how she obtained her British citizenship through her father. While her mother was born in Nigeria and is originally from the South West part of the country.
Tems was given the name Temilade Openiyi by her parents when she was born, and the city of Lagos was the location of her delivery. She did this in order to develop her own sense of style. As a result, she started making music in her own unique way, which eventually resulted in the conception of a style that is a combination of alté, afrobeats, and R&B.
During her time at the university, she developed an interest in sound production and started to become proficient in it. Learning the skill was done with the intention of producing beats for songs that she had written.
In 2018, Tems officially began her career as a musician by releasing her debut single, titled “Rebel,” which featured beats that she had produced herself. Her introduction to the Nigerian music scene, courtesy of Rebel, was instrumental, and many people immediately recognized her as a talented Alté artiste.
However, it was her follow-up single, “Try Me,” that did the trick and won her thousands of fans almost immediately. Try Me was the song that did the magic.
