Palaeontology Scholarship for Undergraduate Students at Flinders University

The aim of the scholarship is to provide financial support to a student from a rural or regional area who is beginning the Bachelor of Science programme (Palaeontology). One scholarship will be offered annually, contingent upon funding.

In 2018, in honour of the 30th anniversary of palaeontology at Flinders University, the student-run Flinders University Palaeontology Society established the Flinders University Palaeontology Scholarship through fundraising efforts.

About the Flinders University

The public Flinders University is located in Adelaide, South Australia. It was founded in 1966 and named after Matthew Flinders, who explored and mapped the South Australian coastline in the early nineteenth century.

Flinders is a green university[citation needed] and a member of the Innovative Research Universities (IRU) Group, ranking 10-16 in Australia and 36th in the world among universities founded in the last 50 years.

The university pioneered a cross-disciplinary approach to teaching, and its faculties of medicine and the humanities are considered among the top 10 in the country.

Scholarship Benefits

Each scholarship will be worth $2,000 and will be paid in equal installments following each semester’s census date.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants for the scholarship must comply with the following requirements:

  • Normally enrolled as a full-time student at Flinders University; and
  • Be a citizen, permanent resident, or holder of a permanent humanitarian visa in Australia; and
  • Begin the Bachelor of Science in Paleontology programme; and
  • Have a permanent residence in regional or rural Australia according to the Australian Geographic Standards Classification (AGSC).

Part-time students with exceptional circumstances, such as disability, illness, or caregiving responsibilities, are eligible for scholarships. Part-time awards will be distributed proportionally.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted via the Flinders University Student System on or before the due date.

As this information will be used as part of the grading process, students must ensure that their permanent home address is recorded accurately in the Student Information System.
