Kimberly Denise Jones, often known as Lil’ Kim, was born in Bedford–Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, on July 11, 1974, as the second child of a former U.S. marine named Linwood Jones. The name of her mother is Ruby Mae Jones. The name of her brother is Christopher Jones.

As a young child, Lil’ Kim attended Queen of All Saints Elementary School in Brooklyn. Her parents split when she was nine years old, and her father raised her; their relationship was difficult. Her father kicked her out of the house when she was a teenager, and she began living on the streets.
