She began rapping at the age of 15, and her friends pushed her to engage in the #SoGoneChallenge, in which participants submit rap lines to the music of Monica’s song So Gone.

Lakeyah remained in Atlanta after dropping out of college and became famous for the #FirstDayOutChallenge. This rap competition honored JT of the group City Girls after his release from jail.

After completing the challenge, she was signed to Quality Control Music, and her freestyle to 42 Dugg and Lil Baby’s “We Paid” went viral.

Big FlexHER, Lakeyah’s debut single with 42 Dugg, was released on October 9, 2020. In the first five days, it had over 400 thousand views, and it currently has over three million.

Time’s Up, the debut album by Lakeyah, was released on December 11, 2020. It featured a song titled Female Goat with City Girls and a Midwestern-sounding rhythm from Detroit producer Stop Playing by Reuel.

It has almost 16 million views on YouTube, making it Lakeyah’s most popular video. In the spring of 2021, she was chosen a brand ambassador for Rihanna’s lingerie collection, Savage X Fenty.

Lakeyah’s second album, In Due Time, was released on April 9, 2021. Gucci Mane and Yung Bleu both contributed a track to the album. She was the fourth fastest-rising new artist on Rolling Stone’s Breakthrough 25 lists after the album’s release, behind Cico P.
