About the University
The University of Copenhagen is a Danish public research university. The University of Copenhagen, founded in 1479, is the second-oldest university in Scandinavia after Uppsala University, and is regarded as one of the top universities in the Nordic countries and Europe.
The University of Copenhagen, which was approved by Pope Sixtus IV, was founded by Christian I of Denmark as a Catholic teaching institution with a predominantly theological focus.
King Christian III re-established the University of Copenhagen as part of the Lutheran Reformation in 1537. Until the 18th century, the university’s primary mission was to educate clergymen.
Various reforms in the 18th and 19th centuries transformed the university into a modern, secular institution, with science and the humanities replacing theology as the primary subjects studied and taught.
The University of Copenhagen is divided into six faculties, with instruction taking place across four distinct campuses in Copenhagen.

The University of Copenhagen bears the names of several well-known scientific theories and schools of thought. The renowned Copenhagen Interpretation of quantum mechanics was developed at the university’s Niels Bohr Institute.
The Department of Political Science also gave birth to the Copenhagen School of Security Studies, which is named after the university. The Copenhagen School of Theology and the Copenhagen School of Linguistics are two others.
As of January 2022, 9 Nobel laureates and 1 Turing Award laureate were students, alumni, or faculty at the University of Copenhagen.
One president of the United Nations General Assembly and at least 24 Danish prime ministers are also alumni. Every week, between 5 and 6 start-ups are established by students, alumni, or faculty members at the University of Copenhagen.
The University of Copenhagen is governed by an 11-member board, with 6 members appointed from outside the university, 2 members appointed by the scientific staff, 1 member appointed by the administrative staff, and 2 members appointed by university students.

Eligibility
- Eligible Countries: All nationalities.
- Acceptable Course or Subjects: PhD Project in Extragalactic Astrophysics
- Admissible Criteria: To be eligible for the integrated scholarship, you must have finished a degree program related to the project’s subject area, such as astronomy or astrophysics, that is comparable to a Danish master’s degree (180 ECTS/3 FTE BSc + 120 ECTS/2 FTE MSc).
- You are (or will be) enrolled in one of the faculty’s physics or astrophysics master’s programs.
- Students enrolled in the integrated program will begin their PhD studies at the same time as they finish their MSc degree.

- How to Apply: All interested candidates applying for the fellowship are required to take admission in a PhD degree at the University of Copenhagen. After getting enrolled, applicants must complete and submit the online application form.
