About the TechWomen Leadership Program
The TechWomen Leadership Program was launched in 2011 by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs as part of efforts to empower women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) globally.
It was inspired by former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s vision to create initiatives that promote economic empowerment and innovation through cross-cultural exchange. The program initially targeted women from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region but has since expanded to include participants from Sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, and Central Asia.
Over the years, TechWomen has brought together hundreds of women professionals to collaborate with mentors in Silicon Valley and other U.S. tech hubs, fostering leadership skills, building professional networks, and encouraging participants to implement community-based projects in their home countries.
