The Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS) program fosters success in graduate studies at Ontario’s publicly funded universities. Since 1975, the OGS program has awarded merit-based scholarships to Ontario’s top graduate students in all fields of study.

The University of Toronto’s scholarship program is jointly financed by the province of Ontario and the university. The Province provides OGS prizes to institutions, outlining the quantity of awards each may offer to their students each year.

Eligibility Requirements

To be considered for the Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS), you must also meet the following criteria:

  • You’ll be in graduate studies at the master’s or doctoral level
  • You’ll be enrolled in a full-time program for 2 or more terms (21 to 52 weeks in total) for the academic year you’re submitting your application.
  • You’ll be attending one of the participating Ontario school listed below:
    • Brock University
    • Carleton University
    • University of Guelph
    • Lakehead University
    • Laurentian University
    • McMaster University
    • Nipissing University
    • OCAD University
    • University of Ontario Institute of Technology
    • University of Ottawa

Application Deadline

The application, document, and review requirements for this scholarship differ by school. For more information, contact your school’s Graduate Studies Office.

Award Disbursement

The OGS is valued at $5,000 each session. Thus, recipients could get $10,000 for two consecutive sessions or $15,000 for three consecutive sessions. In all cases, the granting graduate unit will contribute one-third of the entire cost of the reward obtained by students.

Each grant is valid for one year (two consecutive or three academic sessions). The value and duration of each OGS grant will be established by the awarding graduate unit and stated in the offer letter.

The following are documents required for the Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS):

  • OGS application form
  • Transcripts from all post-secondary institutions (unofficial and student-issued transcripts are permitted; e.g., ACORN screenshots).
  • Previous awards/publications/conference/research experience.
  • Plan of study (Maximum 2 pages: 1 page for Plan of Study, 1 page for references/citations).
  • Two academic references (referees will be required to submit online).
