Kwame Asante, a recently graduated Masters of Science student from University of KwaZulu-Natal's Faculty of Physics and Astronomy in Durban, has been awarded the prestigious National Graduate Thesis Award in Environmental Science — the highest academic distinction for postgraduate thesis research within South Africa's national scientific community.

The award-winning thesis, supervised by a senior professor in University of KwaZulu-Natal's environmental research faculty, developed a novel computational model for predicting coastal erosion rates under different climate warming scenarios over a fifty-year horizon.
