UNILAG Alumnus James Fitzgerald Builds EdTech Platform Reaching Over 500,000 Students Worldwide
Inspired by their student experience at University of Lagos, James Fitzgerald has founded an educational technology platform delivering quality academic content to underserved communities.
Technology as a Lever for Educational Equity
James Fitzgerald, who graduated from University of Lagos's School of Business & Entrepreneurship and spent transformative years on the Lagos campus, has founded a globally recognized educational technology platform that now delivers structured academic content and career guidance to students in underserved communities across twenty-six countries.
The platform — which offers curriculum-aligned video lessons, adaptive practice assessments, and peer-supported mentorship channels — was initially designed to address educational gaps that James Fitzgerald personally observed in secondary school communities during university community outreach projects.
Platform Scale and Impact
- Active Users: Over five hundred thousand registered learners with a sixty-two percent active monthly engagement rate.
- Content Library: More than twelve thousand curriculum-aligned video lessons covering mathematics, sciences, and language arts at secondary and pre-university levels.
- Scholarship Fund: An associated micro-scholarship programme has supported over three thousand students in accessing post-secondary education since its launch.
Reflections from James Fitzgerald
"The values UNILAG instilled in me — intellectual rigour, social responsibility, and collaborative problem-solving — are the direct foundation of what we've built," said James Fitzgerald. "I want every child, regardless of their postcode or their family's income, to have access to the kind of education that opened doors for me."
