Priya Sharma, a recently graduated Masters of Science student from Federal University of Technology, Akure's Faculty of Physics and Astronomy in Akure, has been awarded the prestigious National Graduate Thesis Award in Environmental Science — the highest academic distinction for postgraduate thesis research within Nigeria's national scientific community.

The award-winning thesis, supervised by a senior professor in Federal University of Technology, Akure's environmental research faculty, developed a novel computational model for predicting coastal erosion rates under different climate warming scenarios over a fifty-year horizon.
