Talented Ghanaian woman Lois Afua Okyerewaa Damptey graduated with a PhD in Materials Engineering from Open University in the United Kingdom and was named the 2024 best PhD student. Noting that she was his final PhD student before his retirement, she expressed her joy on Facebook and thanked her supervisor, who gave the prize.
Out of the ten nominees for the prize, Lois came out on top, describing her journey as one that was motivated by hard work, enthusiasm, and faith. Additionally, her research team was named the school’s overall best research team.
Rahman Osman, a journalist from Ghana, shared her amazing story from Pig Farm in Accra, inspiring others to follow their aspirations no matter what obstacles they face. Lois, who started her academic career at the University of Ghana, counseled other students not to let setbacks or criticism deter them.
