Hands-On Research Experience for Top Undergraduate Students

Indian Institute of Technology Bombay's Office of Research and Graduate Education has formally opened applications for its highly competitive summer undergraduate research internship programme. Running across ten weeks based at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay campus in Mumbai, the programme offers exceptional second- and third-year undergraduate students direct participation in active faculty-led research projects spanning natural sciences, engineering, health sciences, and social policy.

Each accepted intern is paired with a faculty supervisor whose research aligns with the student's academic background and intellectual interests. Participants receive a competitive stipend, dedicated workspace within research laboratories, and full access to institutional computational and library resources.

Programme Structure

• Research Project Allocation: Matched based on academic background and application statement priorities submitted during the competitive selection process.
• Weekly Research Seminars: Structured methodological training covering experimental design, data analysis, academic writing, and research ethics protocols.
• Final Symposium: Public presentation of research outcomes evaluated by a faculty panel, with outstanding projects recommended for co-authorship on subsequent publications.

Eligibility and Application Process

Applications are open to enrolled undergraduate students in their second year or beyond, demonstrating a minimum GPA equivalent and two faculty references. Preference is given to applicants from underrepresented communities in India's research workforce.
