After graduating with first-class honors in Civil Engineering from the University of Agriculture, Markudi, Nigeria, Tochukwu Eze, a brilliant Nigerian, outperformed his peers to secure two prestigious scholarships to pursue a master’s degree in the United Kingdom. He shared his success on LinkedIn and will be attending the University of Leeds, England, to pursue a master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering. He received the Masters of Excellence Scholarship, which has only 15 recipients, and the highly competitive Tetley and Lupton Scholarship, which has only five spots available for international students. Tochukwu said that these accomplishments are a testament to his hard work and dedication, and they have rekindled his passion for progress in geotechnical engineering.

He got accepted in 2021 after applying to seven American universities and a number of international scholarships offered by EducationUSA, but he was not given any money. Tochukwu improved his applications in 2022 after seeing that the majority of funding went to PhD students. This resulted in offers from master’s and PhD schools, but he was still without money. He applied to Virginia Tech University and the University of Leeds in 2023, exhausted by past failures, and was accepted with full funding at both schools. Tochukwu credits heavenly favor and perseverance for his success. He emphasized that a mindset of impossibility can obstruct future opportunities and urged others to maintain their resolve.

Along with expressing his sincere gratitude to EducationUSA, he looks forward to working with specialists at the University of Leeds in the hopes that his work in geotechnical engineering will help promote environmentally resilient infrastructure.
