About the Lithuanian Government Scholarship

“Study in LT” is a non-commercial national information and support centre for students who wish to study in Lithuania. Our goal is to educate future international students, their parents, and others about the Lithuanian higher education system and the nuances of life in Lithuania.

Please keep in mind that each university handles the application process. Visas are issued by the Republic of Lithuania’s embassies, diplomatic missions, and consular posts.

Scholarship Benefits

Benefits of applying for the Lithuanian Government Short-Term Studies Scholarship are as follows:

• All candidates accepted for Lithuanian short-term studies will receive a 735 EUR monthly scholarship. The exact sum of the total amount paid for the candidate will be calculated based on the number of days of short-term Lithuanian studies, so the monthly scholarship may vary slightly. The scholarship is only intended to cover the expenses of the scholarship holder. There is no additional charge for accompanying partners or family members. Lithuanian state scholarships cannot be funded twice by other sources, such as other scholarships or academic exchange programs.
• The Republic of Lithuania will pay the tuition fee for studies, which will be transferred directly to the Lithuanian higher education institution.The standard study prices approved by the Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Lithuania will determine the maximum amount of the tuition fee.

Eligibility Criteria

You must meet the general eligibility criteria and regulations of the Lithuanian Government Short-Term Studies Scholarship for you to be eligible and they are:

• The candidate must obtain official acceptance approval (Conditional Agreement) from the selected Lithuanian higher education institution.
• The candidate must be a student, lecturer, or researcher (lecturers and researchers in linguistics or philology only) at an international higher education or research institution, with the exception of citizens of Belarus and Russia, who are not eligible to apply.
• The candidate must be fluent in Lithuanian, English, or another language required for the chosen study program (the minimum of B2 level of study language according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages is required).
• Preference will be given to applicants who:
  • study or teach at Lithuanian (Baltic) science centers (students, teachers, and scientists) – indicate this on the application form;
  • formally or informally study Lithuanian language, history, and culture as a subject at the home institution – indicate this on the application form.

Please keep in mind that each priority adds one point to the selection competition score.

Requirements for Foreigners of Lithuanian Origin.

• The candidate must obtain official acceptance approval (Conditional Agreement) from the selected Lithuanian higher education institution.
• The candidate is a foreigner of Lithuanian origin or a Lithuanian living abroad (Lithuanian citizens who have lived abroad for at least three years or foreign citizens who have lost their Lithuanian citizenship are considered Lithuanians living abroad). A foreigner of Lithuanian origin is a foreigner of Lithuanian descent if at least one of his parents or grandparents is or was Lithuanian and he considers himself Lithuanian).
