AUC is founded on the American liberal arts and sciences model, with students living and studying together in the Amsterdam Science Park on an international campus.

Eligibility Criteria

The ASF Selection Committee, comprised of representatives of the ASF sponsors and an independent chair, evaluates all applications and makes recommendations to the ASF Board regarding which students should receive a scholarship.

For the ASF Selection Committee to examine your scholarship application, you must meet the following requirements:

  • You must also have applied for admission at AUC. Entrance to AUC is handled separately. See the links in the menu on the left for further information about applications and admissions. ASF scholarships are only available to students at AUC.
  • Your family income must be less than the threshold amount (see below).

ASF Scholarships are granted based on academic achievement and financial need. The ASF Selection Committee recommends candidates for a scholarship based on the following criteria:

  • Great school results. They are regarded as a measure of your academic merit. Please note that the ASF Selection Committee will not read your AUC admissions application and will only receive your secondary school grade average (GPA). If you wish to provide the Committee with additional information regarding your academic performance and aptitude, be sure to include it in your motivation letter. This space can also be utilised to explain why you do not currently have great marks but believe you can achieve well at AUC despite this fact.
  • High motivation to study at AUC in the liberal arts and sciences. This is what the ASF Selection Committee will be searching for in your motivation letter.
  • Also, the ASF Selection Committee is interested in your extracurricular achievements and AUC-related activities. Also, your contributions to the community or society, as well as your (future) leadership profile and talents. Be careful to include these details in your motivation letter.
  • First-generation college students and non-Western students are encouraged to apply in particular.
  • Financial exigency In other words, explain in your motivation letter why receiving a scholarship is essential.

Family income threshold

If your family’s income exceeds a particular threshold, you are ineligible for an ASF scholarship. You must include documentation of your family’s income with your scholarship application. Just the total amount of your family’s income will be disclosed to the members of the Selection Committee. They will not have access to your financial papers, which will only be used internally to verify the information you have provided.

  • If you are Dutch and/or eligible for Dutch student aid (studiefinanciering), your family income determines your eligibility for an additional grant from DUO (aanvullende beurs). You must obtain or be eligible for the maximum additional grant to qualify for an ASF scholarship (maximum aanvullende beurs).
  • If you are not Dutch and do not qualify for Dutch student finance (studiefinancering), you must compute your parents’ or guardians’ total yearly income before tax deductions, including non-taxable income such as benefits or pensions. This total must be less than EUR 54,000 to qualify for an ASF scholarship.
